Don Nelson, ABC-Channel 13 Anchor
ABC-13/KTRK-TV’s Don Nelson is a man who wears many hats! During the past 30 years on Houston’s most-watched television station, Don has told 13 Eyewitness News viewers about traffic snarls and tie-ups and reported on all the latest Entertainment and Internet News. He has cooked live on the set, interviewed hundreds of celebrities and helped keep viewers informed about community events.
Don has also hosted many special programs that have taken him to countries like Mexico, the Caribbean, Thailand and India. He’s also been part of dozens of programs and events benefiting the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo including co-anchoring ABC-13’s live Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Parade.
He’s also been called upon to help host many of ABC-13’s community projects such as ABC-13’s annual “Share Your Holiday” Food Drive and the “Caring Cradles Baby Shower” that helps provide items for infants whose parents are needy.
Over the years, Don has helped Houston’s charities raise millions of dollars acting as either Master of Ceremonies or as Auctioneer. These would include the Ronald McDonald House, the American Cancer Society, the Thyroid Society and the Assistance League of Houston just to name a few.
A regular face to Houston viewers, Don came to ABC-13 in November of 1975 as the co-host of “Dialing for Dollars” which later became KTRK-TV’s popular “Good Morning Houston” program. At the same time, his duties in news began to expand making him a versatile talent ABC-13 has called upon time and again to participate and cover many of the city’s news events that have been, and are, televised on ABC-13.
